Civil Society and Religious Freedom
Hardwired is building safer communities across faiths and cultures by helping communities divided by intolerance and mistrust come together to overcome recurrent conflict. We have worked with journalists, lawyers, faith and ethnic leaders and train them in methods and skills that ensure greater protection for the rights and freedom of all people. Programs are tailored to the specific needs of each community.
We help media professionals recognize and report on issues that affect communities affected by religious intolerance and violence to contribute to greater dialogue and respect for freedom of conscience and religion. We help persecuted religious communities understand their rights and know how to advocate for themselves and the religious freedom of others. And we help other societal leaders articulate the need for greater respect and inclusion of others in civil discourse and model the active engagement required for pluralism to flourish in society.
In countries like South Sudan, where there is more than 80% illiteracy among the population, religious communities, journalists and civil society networks are essential to educating the public about their rights and how to protect them. Hardwired's education programs fill a critical space where informal education and sharing of information is essential for strengthening fundamental freedoms and building a culture of pluralism for current and future generations.
